**First Time At Auction**
North Africa, Morocco, Fez (Fes) region, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful earthenware bowl that is wheel thrown and skillfully hand-painted with tin-glazing in floral and linear motif using hues of turquoise, cobalt, saffron yellow, maroon, and black on a cream-colored ground. Sitting upon a ring-form foot, the elegant dish presents thick walls that swell outward to form a shallow basin and a wide, flared rim. These bowls are often used for serving couscous, and known as mokhfias, the intricate decorative basin is displayed on a wall when not in use via the piercing through the ring foot. This is a colorful and fine example! Size: 15.25" Diameter x 3.5" H (38.7 cm x 8.9 cm)
