**Originally Listed At $300**
Pre-Columbian, Gulf Coast Mexico, Veracruz (Vera Cruz), Remojadas, ca. 600 to 800 CE. A fabulous hand-built terracotta woman figure with a baby. She stands with stubby arms outstretched at her sides, and incised lines indicating fingers. This motherly figure holds her baby in a sling at her left side, with the strap across her right shoulder. Her visage consists of narrow slit eyes, a protruding nose with an ornament through the septum, and a jutting chin with a labret. She is nude from the waist up and wears an elaborate headdress and a necklace around her neck. Black bitumen pigments accentuated her face, strap, and thighs. A fine example of a maternity figure! Size: 3.75" W x 6.75" H (9.5 cm x 17.1 cm); 7.125" H (18.1 cm) on included custom stand.
