Julian Ralph (American, 1853-1903 and Henry Bainbridge McCarter (American, 1864-1942), "Coney-Island" July Scribner's, July 1896 AND "Betsey Jane on Wheels Just Out" Chicago: WB Conkey Company, 1895 - an advertising poster for a book entitled, "Betsey Jane on Wheels: A Tale of the Bicycle Craze" by H.E. Brown. A wonderful pair of vintage posters. First is a Scribner's piece depicting a family heading out for a fun time at Coney Island, famous for its beaches, Luna Park, the legendary Cyclone roller coaster, street performers, and the eccentric Circus Sideshow. Paired with this is an advertisement poster announcing the publication of a 19th century book about Betsey Jane's adventures with the bicycle craze - available for a whopping 25 cents in 1895.
