Pre-Columbian, Bolivia, Tiahuanaco (Tiwanaku) culture, ca. 600 to 900 CE. A beautiful double-spouted vessel featuring a dramatic motif of stylized faces. The vessel rests on a flat base that supports the broad dome shoulder. Around the shoulder is a twice-repeated motif of a mask-like anthropomorphic face with four arms or snake heads projecting from it and a single tall feather rising from its center. A linear border around the square face of each separates the red face from the red background. Bullseye stippling dots the rest of the shoulder. All is painted in hues of red, orange, white, black, and gray. Size: 6" Diameter x 6" H (15.2 cm x 15.2 cm)

Repaired from 7 pieces near base of body with losses and chips along break lines and 2 stable fissures radiating outward. Adhesive residue is visible, and two piece of clear adhesive tape are placed in this area. The painted motifs are mostly unaffected by the repairs. Small areas of fading and chipping pigment. Chips around larger spout rim. Nice pigments throughout.
