Spanish Colonial, South America, probably Peru, ca. late 19th century CE. A lovely ensemble of 3 hammered silver drinking cups. The first 2 present elegant forms, each comprised of a bulbous body with a slanted shoulder, a wide-flaring neck, and a large, circular rim, all sitting upon an elongated, tubular stem and a convex, discoid foot. An intricately incised band of abstract and geometric designs adorns the necks of each chalice, while a pair of zoomorphic handles flanks each rim. Alternatively, the third vessel exhibits an annular foot, a thick stem, a flat bottom, and thin walls that spread outward to a broad rim fit with a pair of carefully formed handles, each in the shape of a monkey atop a vine or vegetal motif. An attractive collection of colonial cups! Size of largest: 3" Diameter x 3.6" H (7.6 cm x 9.1 cm); quality of silver (for largest): 46%; total weight: 125.7 grams
