Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sukhothai Kingdom, ca. 1238 to 1438 CE. A delightful hand-built vessel in the form of a goose, enveloped in a lovely celadon-hued glaze. The charming animal appears as though about to take off in flight as it stands upon a pair of webbed feet with its chest puffed out and its sizeable wings beginning to spread. Supported by a long, curved neck, the ancient creature's head displays almond-shaped eyes with large pupils, a pointed beak, and a prominent basal knob. Incised striations add detail to the bird, creating the appearance of feathers across its body. Its petite tail curls upwards, just below a circular rim leading to the hollow interior of the vessel. Size: 5" L x 3.625" W x 6" H (12.7 cm x 9.2 cm x 15.2 cm)
