Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok (Si Satchanalai), ca. 15th century CE. A gorgeous pottery jar presenting a globular form with a circular rim and a domed lid with a flared periphery and a knob-like handle, all sitting atop an applied, ring-form foot. Enveloped in a lustrous celadon glaze, the body of this graceful dish is skillfully incised with an elaborate decorative program, comprised of a large central register of 3 dragons amongst a floral motif with a lower border of vertical striations and horizontal bands, as well as a top layer of an undulating vegetal design with a series of horizontal rings encompassing the rim. Additionally, the lid is embellished by incised patterns with a beautiful arrangement of 2 dragons amongst phytomorphic decoration and a multi-petalled flower on its flat top encircling the pointed finial. Size: 9" in diameter x 9.75" H (22.9 cm x 24.8 cm)
