Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Santa Marta, Tairona culture, ca. 700 to 1500 CE. A fine, hand-carved greenstone ceremonial staff or scepter, presenting an elongated, flat body that flares at the base and then gently tapers just before it comes to a rectangular head of abstract form. The fascinating head is incised with 4 diagonal striations on each side, each starting from a corner and travelling towards the center of the rectangle, as the 2 on the top form small divots in the shape. A recessed area at the top further adorns the piece. Boasting a silky-smooth surface, the lovely staff showcases deep, mottled hues of ash grey, charcoal, mint green, and black. Size: 2.3" W x 12.7" H (5.8 cm x 32.3 cm); 13.6" H (34.5 cm) on included custom stand.
