Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A gorgeous utilitarian bottle of a sizable form, mold-formed from pale blue-green glass, upon a slightly concave base with a set of raised concentric circles. The tall rectangular body has four even sides which round at the shoulders, taper to a cylindrical neck, and terminate in an everted, in-folded rim. A wide trail handle with a pair of protruding corners joins the upper neck to the shoulder for ease of pouring. Thick layers of silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence envelop the exterior and nicely complement the vessel's soft turquoise hues. Size: 2.25" W x 8.6" H (5.7 cm x 21.8 cm).
A stylistically-similar example of a larger size hammered for $9,375 at Christie's, New York Antiquities auction (sale 12257, October 25, 2016, lot 136): https://www.christies.com/lotfinder/ancient-art-antiquities/a-large-roman-mold-blown-pale-green-glass-6029371-details.aspx?from=searchresults&intObjectID=6029371&sid=19c1b475-bf0a-4d7a-87c3-0943c17a9261
