Greek, Hellenistic, ca. 3rd to 2nd century BCE. A very dramatic terracotta figure of Eros captured in dynamic motion. The god of love and romance strides forward upon his right leg, with his right arm outstretched and his left arm raised above his head - nude save a mantle wrapped around his legs (with some loss as shown). Delineated with an attractive visage crowned by long wavy hair parted in the center and braided at the part, with the rest cascading in waves almost to his shoulders. A very special depiction of the god of love that demonstrates the sculptor's interest in conveying movement. Size: 18.625" H (47.3 cm); 19.25" H (48.9 cm) on included custom stand.
