Ancient Near East, The Levant, Cypriot, Late Bronze Age, ca. 1550 to 1400 BCE. A sophisticated, wheel-thrown redware jar exhibiting a tall, piriform body with a flat base, a carinated upper body beneath a sloped shoulder, a narrow neck topped with a collared rim, and a thick handle arching off the verso. Incised around the shoulder are 2 registers of linear motifs - the top with parallel frets, and the bottom with interlocking triangular panels. Scholars know that vessels like this example were exported across the ancient world and were believed to have contained perfumed oils. Size: 5.875" W x 12.625" H (14.9 cm x 32.1 cm)

Condition
Restoration to handle, with resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Minor abrasions across base, body, and rim, with a few spalls, softening to some incised decorations, and fading to red pigment in some areas. Nice earthen deposits and good overall form.
