- Lot Description
Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Tairona culture, ca. 1200 to 1500 CE. This is as wonderful collection of approximately 200 stone beads that are strung on a thread as necklace. The stones are mottled earthen hues of creamy pink, tan, beige, and white. Interestingly, the stones are carved into nearly identical forms: the backside is curved, the face side flat and incised with a V-shaped notch at both ends and a pair of stippled dots in the center. Perhaps a highly abstract representation of a woman or simply geometric motifs, they add visual interest to the lustrous stones. The beads are on an older thread and should be restrung before wearing - and the addition of a few vibrant beads from Tairona or another pre-Columbian culture would make this a stunning accessory! Size of strand: 21" L (53.3 cm); average bead: 0.3" L x 0.125" W (0.8 cm x 0.3 cm)
Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
