Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Tairona culture, ca. 1200 to 1500 CE. A special necklace presenting a unique design comprised of a wonderful ensemble of over 50 beads made from greenstone, obsidian, pottery, stone, and spondylus shell. Several of the beads present zoomorphic forms, including seven carved from a dark grey-black stone and one canine head carved from spondylus shell. Two spondylus shell beads present stylized conical forms. There are also several tubular beads: 1 of spondylus and 2 of a black stone with white veining, 2 round polished terracotta beads, 4 polished obsidian spiked beads, and dozens of petite greenstone disc-shaped beads. All beads are ancient and strung in modern times with a sterling silver clasp. A fabulous necklace, sure to be appreciated by an animal lover or anyone who appreciates Pre-Columbian artistry!
