Thomas Kelly (Irish born American, 1795-1841) "American Hunting Scene. Wild Duck Shooting." Hand-colored lithograph. Printed in New York, ca. 1850. A very large, hand-colored folio lithograph depicting a quintessential 19th century hunting scene featuring three gentleman hunters accompanied by two gillies and two lively retrieving dogs, the white one carrying a duck in its mouth. Notice the other retrieved ducks in their boats. Thomas Kelly was an Irish lithographer who immigrated to the United States in the mid-19th century. A contemporary of Currier and Ives, who also worked in New York City, he is best known for hunting scenes like this one as well as scenic views.
