Ancient Near East, The Levant, Syro-Hittite culture, ca. 1580 BCE. A charming hand-built pottery effigy of a bird with its wing's outstretched upon a pedestal with a flared base. The bird is simply designed with impressed eyes, and incised lines across the back and wings to indicate plumage. This petite avian may have been an idol or a votive offering for a shrine or temple that could carry messages up to the gods. Size: 1.5" W x 2.5" H (3.8 cm x 6.4 cm)
