Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica/Panama, Chiriqui culture, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A magnificent gold figural pendant depicting a nude male deity or shaman with an animalistic head, featuring a large snout-like mouth with open fanged jaws, and a headdress adorned with a pair of snake or saurian heads emerging from either side, atop spiraling ear ornaments - embodying powerful supernatural symbolism. The figure stands with outstretched arms, and suspension loops at the nose and behind the head suggest it was worn as a ceremonial or status ornament. Crafted using the lost-wax casting technique, this piece showcases the sophisticated metalworking traditions of the Chiriqui culture. The exaggerated face may represent a mythological being or a human figure wearing a mask. Reptilian motifs are commonly seen in gold pendants from Costa Rica and Panama. Size: 3" L x 2.375" W (7.6 cm x 6 cm); Gold quality: 75.68% (equivalent to 18K+)
Please note that this piece is a dropship item, meaning that it will be shipping from the consignor's location. All information regarding condition, size, and metal content have been provided by the consignor.
