Mesopotamia, modern day Iraq, Ur III, ca. 2094 to 2047 BCE. A hand-built clay tablet of rectangular form bearing rounded peripheries and convex faces. Impressed into the surfaces are 8 lines of cuneiform text that wrap around the surfaces, each character formed by a sharpened reed or stick just prior to being placed inside of a kiln. While not translated, the lines of text are of an administrative nature and most likely related to crops or livestock changing hands between buyer and seller.
