Near East, Persia, Safavid Dynasty, ca. 18th century CE. A stunning ampulla, free blown from light green glass to display a globular body, a round shoulder, a slender neck, and a flared rim, all sitting upon a circular, concave base. A ring of wavy trailing adorns the shoulder followed by a spiral of undulating trailing just below that wraps twice around the broad body. A remarkable example from Islamic culture! Condition
Intact and excellent with light weathering film on interior. Collection label and pontil mark on underside of base. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time.
