Steve Spellman (American, Contemporary). "Summer Fields" oil on canvas, ca. 2015. Signed "S.L. Spellman" on lower left. A gorgeous painting by American Southwest artist Steve Spellman who continues the artistic tradition of Taos, standing on the shoulders of legends such as Ernest Blumenschein (1874-1960) and Joseph Henry Sharp (1859-1953), capturing the beauty and mystical qualities of the Southwest. "Summer Fields" welcomes the viewer to follow a charming path that winds its way through the terrain. Desert plants and rough-hewn fence posts line the dirt road. A lean-to and a barn nestled amongst a few verdant trees mark the middle distance. Finally, a grand mountain range rises beyond the rolling fields and below the azure skies. Spellman's canvases suggest that he is an artist who sees the Southwest as a peaceful place and conveys his strong connection to the colors and land forms of this special place on each canvas. Size of painting: 22" L x 28" W (55.9 cm x 71.1 cm) Size of frame: 27.75" L x 33.75" W (70.5 cm x 85.7 cm)
