Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Sinu Valley, Sinu culture, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A beautiful pendant formed by cast-85.73% gold (equivalent to over 20 karats) over pottery and displaying the form of 2 zoomorphs seated side-by-side. Nearly identical, the curious creatures present slender, tubular bodies, each atop 4 bent legs, risen posteriors, and thick, tapered tails that curve upwards. Their sizeable heads feature elongated snouts flanked by petite ears projecting outwards. Note the artist's careful attention to detail as evident in their skillfully incised toes, shown grasping the thin poles that lay before and behind them. Figure has a pottery core that cannot be removed for more accurate weighing of only the gold weight. Collection numbers written on side and base. Outside proper left legs reattached with losses, as well as some losses to outside right hind leg. Perforation to back of head of one figure. Some stable hairline fissures in areas. Otherwise, very nice.
