Ancient Western North America, Mesozoic era, ca. 252 to 66 million years ago. A stunning pendant made from a polished piece of vibrant dinosaur bone set in a sterling silver bezel with and strung on a cord as a necklace. The bone is cut into an oval, rounded convex face and high polished to reveal the beautiful colors. The purple lilac hues are punctuated by maroon and mauve striations, creating veins across the surface. The wonderful hues are a result of agatization - the bone having been replaced with silica minerals. The bone is placed in a sterling silver bezel that has scalloped crown rim, twist rope edge, and a sterling back panel to secure the bone in place. A ring welded to the verso is secured to a bail that has two protruding silver balls to add a visual and textural interest to the piece. All is strung on a modern cord with a lobster clasp, making this gorgeous dinosaur pendant easily wearable. Size of pendant: 1.95" L x 0.9" W (5 cm x 2.3 cm); cord: 21" L (53.3 cm); silver quality: 92%; weight: 11.8 grams
