Peter Max (American, b. Germany 1937),"My Love Is America, Vote!", 1976. A large lithographic poster of "Liberty," signature in red at lower right, below this a blue signature and date (Peter Max 1976) done in the plate. Lower left "Sterling Roman Press". Lower right Peter Max copyright. A wonderful original Peter Max lithographic poster of "Liberty" created for the 1976 Bicentennial; Libertas was the Roman goddess and personification of liberty and freedom. This image began Max's annual July 4th tradition of painting the Statue of Liberty. Note the wonderful painterly rendering of Lady Liberty's quixotic visage. What's more, Max's "My Love is America, Vote!" statement is an early "Get out the vote" message that is quite apropos today and never gets old! Size: 37" W x 25" H (94 cm x 63.5 cm); 40.25" W x 29.75" H (102.2 cm x 75.6 cm) with custom double matting
For the 4th of July in 1976, Max created a special installation as well as an art book entitled "Peter Max Paints America," which included a painting of each of the fifty states to commemorate America’s bicentennial. Six years later, in 1982, Max painted six Lady Liberties on the White House lawn. He also played a role in the statue’s restoration, which was completed in 1986. Max has dubbed himself "America’s own most patriotic artist."
The "My Love is America Vote!" poster is in the esteemed collection of the Cooper Hewitt museum (Accession number 1981-29-134) - https://collection.cooperhewitt.org/objects/18617331/
