Peter Max (American, b. Germany 1937). "Blushing Beauty" Classic Suite etching with hand-drawn colored pencil drawings, 2015. Hand-signed by Peter Max in pencil in the lower right. Numbered 3 of 495 on lower left. A deluxe edition from a larger plate, hand-colored with hand-drawn colored pencil remarques. Embossed "Peter Max Copyright" seal at lower left. A beautiful work by Peter Max delineated in his bold linear style with vibrant color juxtapositions and an ethereal theme of beauty. Max presents the profile of an elegant female with flowers in her hair, joined by two hand-drawn colored pencil remarques - a dove with a heart across its chest at the upper right and a second rendering of the female, delineated in a rainbow of hues. Size of plate mark: 10.875" L x 8.75" W (27.6 cm x 22.2 cm) Size of sheet: 22" L x 19.25" W (55.9 cm x 48.9 cm) Size of frame: 35.5" L x 32.625" W (90.2 cm x 82.9 cm)
Born in Berlin, Peter Max moved frequently with his family, living in more than six countries until they settled in the United States. Max studied in New York City at the Art Students League, Pratt Institute, and the School of Visual Art. Max has been revered as a visionary pop artist during the 1960's beloved for his "Cosmic '60s" style, and his style would later evolve to Neo Expressionism. Max employed a bold linear style of painting using bold Fauvist colors and intriguing themes. As he evolved from Pop to Neo-Expressionism, his work became more painterly and sensuous, and today his work continues to inspire young artists. Max’s unique symbolism and vibrant color palette have continued to inspire new generations of Americans throughout the decades.
