Peter Max (American, b. Germany 1937). "Suzin Ver. VIII #65" - acrylic painting on canvas, 2017. Hand signed in pigment on upper right by the artist. An exquisite painting by Peter Max delineated in his striking gestural style with vibrant color juxtapositions and an ethereal theme of beauty. Max presents the bust of an elegant female with one hand held to her mouth and a sweet heart in the vicinity, all delineated in a rainbow of hues. According to the artist's website,"An homage to a beautiful friend, Max created 'Suzin' with minimalist, black strokes, inspired by the Buddhist calligraphers he watched as a child growing up in Shanghai, China. The flowing black lines meet the bold, colorful strokes of flowers in her hair and the warm, soft tones of her skin." A stunning painting set in an attractive custom frame. Size: 23.75" L x 19" W (60.3 cm x 48.3 cm) Size of frame: 32.8" L x 28.125" W (83.3 cm x 71.4 cm)
Born in Berlin, Peter Max moved frequently with his family, living in more than six countries until they settled in the United States. Max studied in New York City at the Art Students League, Pratt Institute, and the School of Visual Art. Max has been revered as a visionary pop artist during the 1960's beloved for his "Cosmic '60s" style, and this style would later evolve to Neo Expressionism. Max employed a bold linear technique of painting using bold Fauvist colors and intriguing themes. As he evolved from Pop to Neo-Expressionism, his work became more painterly and sensuous, and today his work continues to inspire young artists. Max’s unique symbolism and vibrant color palette have continued to inspire new generations of Americans throughout the decades.
