Leonard Tsuguharu Foujita (1886-1968, Japanese-French). "Chat Assis" (Sitting Cat) - Lithograph. Signed and dated 1926 in the plate. Edition number handwritten in pencil 47/50 on lower left. Signed "Foujita" in pencil on lower right. Foujita was not only a respected artist, he was also known for his love of cats. His works blended traditional Japanese aesthetics with European Modernism. This print presents an adorable kitty sitting in an interior, looking out with those mesmerizing eyes, presenting with its fluffy coat, and dramatically lit with a halo of light surrounding its form. The print is signed both in the plate as well as in pencil below the image, and set in a very nice custom frame behind glass. Born in Tokyo, Foujita attended Tokyo National Univeristy of Fine Arts and Music where he studied western art. He later traveled to Paris and met pioneers of early Modernism including Picasso, Modigliani, Matisse, and Leger. During WWII, he lived in Japan, and following the war he returned to France.

Print has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be in very good condition save normal toning to paper and some stains. Edition number handwritten in pencil 47/50 on lower left. Signed "Foujita" in pencil on lower right.
