Emily Aitken (British, 20th century), "Silver Grey", oil on board. Ca. mid 20th century CE. Signed at lower right. A beautiful still life oil painting featuring a flower arrangement of white daisies with yellow centers and sprays of lavender blossoms as well as a pile of four books to the left, all upon a tabletop, painted in a lush Impressionist manner. The large painting is set in a beautiful gilded frame presenting elaborate decorative motifs with openwork flourishes adorning the border. On the verso is a label issued by the Royal Society of British Artists identifying the artist, her studio address, and the title of the piece. Below are two old Christies London labels for Aitken paintings, one for a comparable still life sold at Christies London in 1989 (see below). Condition
Painting is in very good condition. There are wonderful impasto passages in the flower arrangement. Signed at lower right. Frame finish shows nice craquelure. On verso is an old label from the Royal Society of British Artists listing the artist, her studio address, and the title of the piece. In addition, there are 2 Christies auction result labels, one for a comparable still life. See extended description for further details. Chain link attached to verso for suspension.
