Walter Thomas "Tom" Grice (American, 1943-2011). Portrait of Native American Man. Oil on canvas, 20th century. Signed "T. Grice" on lower left and lower right. A beautiful portrait of a Native American chief wearing a red blanket over his shoulders that crosses his chest in a deep 'V' by American artist Tom Grice. Presented half-length, the sitter looks out with a serious expression, his visage crowned by long brunette hair, centrally-parted with braids falling well past his shoulders. The colorful background is delineated in thick impasto surrounding the figure with hues of golden yellow, warm orange, and coral pink, as well as a few brief passages of spring green and sky blue - a brilliant color palette inspired by the Taos School.
