Native American, Inuit, Northern Canada, ca. mid-20th century CE. Signed "INNUKPAK / SCP." A fascinating hand-carved soapstone sculpture of a hunter laying on his side to reel in a harpoon after having struck a seal. The fascinating figure wears a heavy coat, thick pants, and snow boots as both his mittened hands tug at the harpoon rope. He uses his left foot to push against the ground as he pulls, putting the full weight of his body into the struggle. His flustered visage displays a straight mouth, prominent nasolabial folds, a wide nose, and slender eyes beneath bushy brows. The handle of his weapon lays before him on the ground.
