Pre-Columbian, North Coast of Peru, Sican-Lambayeque culture, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A fine drinking vessel called a kero (also quero) hammered from a sheet of 88% silver and decorated with a band of repeating monkeys beneath a register of stepped motifs, all in repousse. The flared rim leads inwards to form a deep basin, and the planar base lends to its support. Size: 5.5" L x 5.3" W x 5.75" H (14 cm x 13.5 cm x 14.6 cm); silver quality: 88%; total weight: 74.3 grams
