Eastern Europe, Russia, Imperial Period, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE; Western Europe, likely England, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A delightful pair of silver cloisonne spoon and glass powder jar with a gilt brass and enamel lid. The spoon is 91% silver with a foliate and floral motif on the verso of the bowl done in cloisonne of red, blue, and white. The neck is stamped with the assay mark known as a kokoshnik and a maker’s mark in Cyrillic. The tip of the handle has a cloisonne finial of geometric shapes. The jar is a thick octagonal glass body with a cylindrical receptacle and a domed, gilt brass lid over the rim. The lid is decorated with scrolling and rope shaped patterns in repousse that create the borders for the red, blue, and white enamel. The jar was a powder or cosmetic jar for a lady.
