Roman, Republic to Imperial Period / Romano-Egyptian ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. Eastern Mediterranean, Greece & Phoenicia, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An eclectic collection of ancient glass and paste glass beads gathered together and strung as a wearable necklace, with modern brass and stone dZi beads added to balance the strand. The 18 ancient beads include millefiori, mosaic fused, and a cylindrical mavered bead, as well as others created via core form techniques. The white trailing patterning displayed in several was also a special method, begun in the late 16th century BCE by glassmakers of Mesopotamia, and then adopted by Egyptians in the 15th century BCE, and spreading throughout the Mediterranean. At the center is a large pendant with a mottled red and white mosaic surface. Size of strand: 17" L (43.2 cm); pendant: 2" L x 1" W (5.1 cm x 2.5 cm)
