Roman, Republic to early Imperial period, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. A stunning, nearly 24-karat gold repousse applique an aedicula or petite shrine featuring a central nude male youth, possibly a god, standing contrapposto while holding a scepter in one hand and pouring a vessel with the other, as though making an offering. The figure is surrounded by various other symbols of offerings, such as busts, a mask, an urn, and a dish of fruit, as well as a petite animal. The pediment above is filled with a scrolling vegetal motif. This composition bears a striking resemblance to a bronze relief of Sabazios found in the Nationalmuseet in Copenhagen. Size: 2.1" W x 2.2" H (5.3 cm x 5.6 cm); gold quality: 98.91% (23.74 karats); weight: 2.3 grams
Provenance: private Thousand Oaks, California, USA collection, acquired February 15, 2007; ex-Time Machine Gallery

Condition
Some small chips and minor folds to edges with a few miniscule perforations and minor tears to interior; none of which greatly affect imagery. Some minor bending, as commensurate with age. Otherwise, good remaining detail and nice overall presentation.
