- Lot Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A skillfully sculpted fragment of a figure's mid-section, depicting the area between the upper legs and lower waist. A twisted veil lies gently at the figure's hips, cascading down their legs with one periphery of the fabric falling to the front, just below a curved stomach and lightly recessed navel. The verso displays a nicely formed posterior presenting a pair of fleshy cheeks, coyly revealed by the winding fabric of their drape. A cracking good example of Roman culture that would be a cheeky asset to any collection! Size: 2.375" W x 4" H (6 cm x 10.2 cm); 5.875" H (14.9 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection, acquired 1990s; ex-Robert Hobacz estate, New York, USA
