Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A stunning gold ring presenting an ovoid carnelian intaglio of a left-facing horse. Skillfully incised into the vibrant red stone, the noble steed exhibits a muscular body with a bowed head and a serrated mane as he steps forward. The smooth body of the ancient ring gently tapers to a thin band opposite the intaglio. A beautiful example that was likely worn by ancient Roman nobility! Size (ring): 0.8" Diameter x 0.3" W (2 cm x 0.8 cm); (intaglio): 0.3" L x 0.2" W (0.8 cm x 0.5 cm); gold quality: 93% (equivalent to 22K+); weight: 1.9 grams; US ring size: 4

Condition
Both intaglio and ring are ancient. Some scratches to intaglio but image is still clear. A few indentations and abrasions to gold, commensurate with age. Otherwise, intact, excellent, and wearable.
