Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. Exhibiting the utmost elegance, this unguentarium is comprised of cobalt blue glass and its design is most intriguing. The sinuous "twisted" body was created via the core-form technique and then the ribs were formed and shaped with pincers while the glass was hot. Twin trail handles were added, joining rim to shoulder. Finally, the pad base was applied as a disk separately. Imbuing the glass with even more beauty is the remarkable silvery as well as violet purple iridescence. A wonderful example, replete with the utmost artistry and technique! Size: 1.5" in diameter x 3.9" H (3.8 cm x 9.9 cm)
