Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. A beautiful flask that is free-blown from translucent glass of a soft turquoise hue. The vessel features an inverted piriform body with a rounded base, a bulging shoulder that tapers to form a squat neck, and a flared rim with an in-folded rim. Flasks like this example were used to hold scented oils, perfumes, or other fine substances in ladies' toilettes. Layers of rainbow-hued iridescence have formed across the exterior surfaces and gracefully complement the faint blue-green color of the vessel. Size: 1.8" W x 4.7" H (4.6 cm x 11.9 cm); 5" H (12.7 cm) on included custom stand.
