- Lot Description
Rome, Imperial period, ca. 2nd century CE. A lovely bone carving of the Roman goddess Venus (Greek Aphrodite), depicted nude in the traditional "pudica" pose - with one hand covering her bosom and the other over her sex - a position that simultaneously hides her nudity whilst bringing attention to it. The slender deity stands contrapposto atop an integral, tiered pedestal with an elongated body, all surmounted by a crown-like coiffure. Size: 0.3" L x 0.4" W x 2.6" H (0.8 cm x 1 cm x 6.6 cm)
