Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A lovely hand-carved banded agate intaglio featuring a right-facing archer. The nude figure is shown pulling back the string of a bow just prior to loosing an arrow at a waterfowl flying through the air and has a bushy beard to accentuate his masculine visage. The intaglio is set within the ovoid bezel of a silver ring that measures 82% to 86.5% purity, and the bifurcated shoulder bands coalesce below to form the narrow shank. A wearable and attractive example of fine jewelry! Size (ring): 0.8" W x 0.7" H (2 cm x 1.8 cm); (intaglio): 0.55" L x 0.375" W (1.4 cm x 1 cm); quality of silver: 82% to 86.5%; total weight: 2.1 grams; US ring size 3.5

Condition
Wearable as shown and constucted in modern times. Agate intaglio is ancient, and silver ring is modern. Minor abrasions to intaglio surface and light encrustations within recessed ring areas, otherwise intact and very good. Great patina to silver ring and nice preservation to intaglio imagery.
