Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A gorgeous matching pair of96% gold (equivalent to 22K+) earrings with garnet inlays and glass bead danglers. Each earring consists of a large hemispheric shield with a central garnet inlay set in a bezel and further adorned with gold at the center as well as a gold rope-pattern border. Below the shield is an attached rounded lozenge-shaped panel decorated with three equidistantly placed granules and surrounded by a rope-pattern border just like the shield forms above. Finally, la pies de resistance are a trio of danglers, each one presenting a garnet inlay at the top and a beautiful glass bead - of either a cobalt blue or white hue and with attractive iridescence - adorning the lower ends of the danglers. A magnificent pair boasting impressive style, artistry, and technique. Truly wearable art! Wearable as shown. Minor abrasions and indentations to discoid bodies, with bending to some dangling wires, minor nicks to some glass beads and middle of disc bodies, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Great patina throughout and light iridescence on glass beads.
