Roman, possibly the Levant/Syria, ca. 1st century CE. A matched pair of beautiful 20 karat gold earrings, each with a gold ring with three small loops hanging down from it and, below that, an amphora shape made from gold wire as handles, two glass beads forming the neck and foot, and a round white piece of limestone forming the body. A small gold bead at the bottom holds all of this together. The amphora form was common in classical jewelry from the Hellenistic period onward, with many similar examples to these found in Roman Syria.
