Pre-Columbian, Brazil, Amazon River Estuary, Marajao Island, ca. 1000 CE. A lovely ensemble of five hand-built pottery drug implements of miniature size featuring bulbous bodies, rounded bases, and beautiful incised motifs. Two drug implements present with circular rims, hemispherical forms, petite zoomorphic heads that double as finger rests, and tubular mouthpieces in front of deep receptacles. Of these, one of a creamy peach hue displays an inward-curving rim with a zigzag incised border and an incised spiral motif on its base. The other of these boasts a shade of vibrant russet, and is incised with a detailed geometric pattern. Two more implements have spherical forms, anthropomorphic head finger rests, conical mouthpieces, and annular, flared rims. Of these, the orange drug implement is decorated with undulating incised striations and a spiraling, raised embellishment, while the paler example is incised with a lattice motif. Size of largest: 5" W x 2" H (12.7 cm x 5.1 cm)
Finally, the last exhibits a light grey-pink color and an ovoid form. Its flared rim is slightly extended on one side to form a finger rest, while the other side features a conical mouthpiece.

Condition
Four are inscribed with collection numbers, while the ovoid example has a collection label. All have expected light nicks, pitting, and a few barely distinguishable surface fissures commensurate with age. Largest has minor chip to mouthpiece. Otherwise, intact and excellent with nice earthen and manganese deposits.
