Eastern Europe, Russia, Cretaceous period, ca. 145 to 66 million years ago. A rare fossilized heteromorph ammonite, distinguished by its partially uncoiled shell and an upward-curving chamber opening that points toward the coil. Unlike typical ammonites with tightly coiled shells, heteromorphs display irregularly bent, ribbed structures that often culminate in a loose coil at the tip. Almost fully excavated from its surrounding stone matrix, the fossil remains partially embedded in the stone, which serves as a natural support. Additionally, the remnants of a second ammonite shell are visible within the matrix. Size: 5.5" L x 2" W x 9.5" H (14 cm x 5.1 cm x 24.1 cm)
