Made before the first pharaoh, of Nile silt, each in acorn form joined at midsection, highly burnished surface, achieving the deep black finish by throwing the vessel into a large open fire. These are reminiscent and relatives of the black-top redware jars of the period, save the redware section. It is quite likely this was intended to be two-toned but the vessel was "misfired." Two suspension lugs indicate this was hung somewhere safe and out of reach of children. Size: 4.5" W x 3.125" H (11.4 cm x 7.9 cm); 3.375" H (8.6 cm) on included custom stand.
Our research has found basalt jars in this form of the period and painted redware jars. This is the only example of a blackware double jar we can find making it exceedingly rare and exceptionally special!
