Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes (Paquime) culture, Escondido type, Viejo-Tardio Periods, ca. 900 to 1300 CE. A hand-built pottery jar of sizable form with a round but stable base, a gently carinated midsection, a sloped shoulder, and a thick top surmounted by a flared rim. Coursing across the sandy beige-hued are intricate black-hued linear bands that create stepped patterns, parallel bands, spiraling tendrils within black grounds, and elongated triangular motifs. This vessel was perhaps used as a cooking pot for a larger group of village denizens. Size: 9.3" Diameter x 7" H (23.6 cm x 17.8 cm)

Condition
Professional repair and restoration, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines that do not adversely affect the overall presentation. Abrasions and fading to original pigment, with small chips and spalls in some areas. Nice remains of original pigment.
