Ancient Central Asia, southeastern Iranian Plateau, early Bronze Age, Jiroft (also known as Intercultural or Halil Rud) culture, ca. late 3rd millennium BCE. An elegant chlorite bowl boasting a lustrous, stone-polished exterior and a deeply-carved band of sawtooth motif encircling the broad rim. The decoration of this vessel is consistent with a series of bowls in the National Museum of Iran that were found in the Halil Rud region and are classified as Jiroft culture - an independent Bronze Age civilization with its own architecture and language, intermediate between Elam to the west and the Indus Valley civilization to the east. Size: 6.8" Diameter x 1.9" H (17.3 cm x 4.8 cm); 7.75" H (19.7 cm) on included custom stand.
