Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Middle Cauca Complex, ca. 800 to 1500 CE. An adorable hand-built and stone burnished anthropomorphic pottery figure sitting with both his posterior and feet on the ground, while his mop-like hands rest on each knee. The redware statue presents in a highly abstract form featuring a long columnar body with a flat posterior that stretches far beyond his legs, tubular limbs extending to form his narrow sides, and a small phallus at his base. The mysterious visage of slit-form eyes, a thin mouth, and a prominent nose are set on an ovoid head topped with punctured dots and flanked by tab-like perforated ears, imbuing it with an almost extraterrestrial appearance. A slender nose ring of 17 karat gold is suspended within the pierced septum. Hand painted in a lovely hue of sienna, this is an excellent piece from Quimbaya culture! Quality of nose ring gold: 74% gold (equivalent to 17 karat gold), 14% copper, 11% silver; Size: 10.125" L x 6.125" W x 11.25" H (25.7 cm x 15.6 cm x 28.6 cm)
