Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Middle Cauca Complex, Quimbaya culture, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A hollow-built and highly-abstract pottery figure standing atop wide-set, attenuated legs and covered in red-orange slip. The convex body tapers gently to rounded shoulders and a smooth chest, and each curving arm has a small biconically-drilled hole beneath the elbow. The mysterious visage of slit-form eyes, a thin mouth, and a bulbous nose are set presented on a broad ovoid head which imbues it with an intriguing, almost extraterrestrial appearance. Size: 5.125" W x 10.75" H (13 cm x 27.3 cm).
