Pre-Columbian, North Coast of Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 600 to 1200 CE. A beautiful pair of nearly matching sheet gold applique ornaments, each depicting a central musician figure standing between a pair of slightly more petite attendants. The central figure presents wearing a broad, rectangular tunic with fringe patterning in repousse, knee-length trousers above petite feet, and a radiant crown above a stylized visage. Each lateral attendant stares towards their lustrous central figure and dons an enormous tumi-shaped headdress. The musician is perhaps holding bells or rattles used for ceremonial dances. A pin is attached to the verso of each composition and enables it to be fitted onto a garment. Size of each (both are relatively similar): 2" W x 2" H (5.1 cm x 5.1 cm)
