- Lot Description
Ancient Near East, Achaemenid, ca. 5th to 2nd century BCE. A stunning gold (92% gold, equivalent to 20K+) and carnelian necklace of a sublime presentation. The necklace includes 20 gold spherical beads comprised of gold sheet adorned by a ribbed pattern throughout, 10 gold beads comprised of finely modeled gold sheet to present an intriguing floral or conifer shape, and 31 hand-carved, hand-drilled, and hand-polished carnelian beads of vermilion red-orange hues. All beads are ancient, strung in modern times to create a perfectly balanced arrangement, with a modern clasp. Precious metal quality: 92% gold, equivalent to 20K+. Size: 16" L (40.6 cm); floral/conifer beads measure .625" L (1.6 cm); carnelian beads .375" in diameter (1 cm); gold spherical beads .25" in diameter (0.6 cm); total weight: 36.8 grams
