Pre-Columbian, southern Peru, proto Nazca, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. A long and finely woven textile edging made from camelid (llama or alpaca) fibers in vibrant shades of red, brown, gold, blue, tan and green. The panel shows a string of 28 trophy heads - a fun way to end a battle with your enemy was to take his head and wear it on your belt. Each head shows long strands of brown "hair" and sock-like bodies woven in a simplified temple pattern. A long and very finely woven example ready to frame. Size: 60" L x 6" H (152.4 cm x 15.2 cm)
